Visual Art

" when the soul wants to experience something she throws out an image in front of her and then steps into it"

Artist statement
I am a visual artist working on the west coast of Ireland, where I live with my small family, and my two dogs.
I like to work with a variety of media and create paintings, drawings and sometimes prints depending on the themes or ideas I am exploring. I have always kept visual diaries and have recently started to learn how to make my own handmade books which I use to record my art making process, and an alternative way of telling my story. I like to think that all my work can act like visual containers, holding memory, and the history of narratives constructed and deconstructed within the work.

I am fascinated by the human psyche and how we create, imagine and reimagine realities to make sense of and express our sense of self and the world around us. As a visual artist this becomes recorded within my work. I am surrounded by nature and find it a huge source of inspiration from which to make work from. I like to draw directly from nature, trees, plants, animals and birds and I am also interested in making connections between the nature within us and the wild parts of ourselves, instincts, feelings, senses, etc. Animals, birds and trees feature strongly within my work, and I like to think they act like guides or protectors within the work and within my life. Recurring themes such as childhood, motherhood, death, dreams and the unconscious surface within my, as does an interest in memory and returning to specific moments in time to reclaim parts of myself that may have been lost or left behind.

Art has always provided with me with a source I can tap into to explore, express and develop my own personal symbolic language and way of connecting to self and other. It feels like my own personal spiritual practice, shadowing me and helping me stay connected to my inner world and what I would call my soul. There is a sense of being witness to something other than myself and being in touch with a place more than I.
It is here where I can express myself most authentically, and my hope is that you will find something of yourself and your own journey within the work.
